Here is the link for Polyphaseer. Check out the technical literature free:
Broadcast Engineering Inc.. (Mfg. of MF+SW TX gear) also has an excellent
tech. library with lots of lightning info and links:
Also the Broadcasting News homepage with lots of good antenna info:
The book published by the Polyphaser people is a must-read : "The "Grounds"
for Lightning and EMP protection"
Another essential book is "Electrical Overstress/Electrostatic Discharge
Symposium Proceedings". By the Reliability Analysis Center - ITT Research
Center / 1980. Contains interesting photographs which corroborate my theory
that semiconductors can check "good" but actually be headed for failure, due
to ESD exposure. Many years in the field proved it but I didn't know why
before.
The National Electrical CodeBook gives info as to what is actually required
as far as grounding of radios and antennas also. (Look at local Library -
not worth owning just for the small section pertaining to antennas).
A catalog is available from Thompson Lightning Protection Inc.. of St. Paul
Minnesota. (1-800-777-1230). This is where I get the Alternative Grounding
Devices (chemical ground rods) used in lieu of driven grounrods in special
applications.
CADWELD shots can be gotten at Graybar, and many electrical supply housed.
One other note on groundrods. Unless you've actually seen one installed by
an electrician, using a beer can full of water, and his bare hands, you
simply won't believe it. The real thing- 8' by 5/6, copper over steel. No
hammers, nothing but a little water, and his two hands, and won't even break
a sweat.
