[TowerTalk] Rude Tower Salesman

Hi All,
I have purchased from Texas Towers on several occasions in the past
couple of years. I've always found Gerald to be friendly, easy to get
along with, knowledgeable and helpful. I appreciate that kind of
treatment and find it to be of more value to me than searching for the
absolute lowest cost on an item. On one occasion, my call was answered by
an employee(about a year ago) who didn't seem very interested, or just
wasn't able to be helpful. A few days later i called and spoke that time
with Gerald, and placed my order. Owners and managers of businesses
certainly wouldn't approve of discourteous or rude employees. They likely
never know of many instances. Perhaps Gerald really does have bad days,
just like the rest of us. Perhaps , in such a "busy" period, Gerald has
to quickly assess what calls and what customers are really ,likely,
serious. I had a 2 way radio business for 8 years, in the '80's and into
'91. I can tell you that, on bad days, if you were likely a waste of
time, i may well have reacted accordingly. My company had an excellent
reputation, but we never became profitable enough to weather the next
"downturn" in the economy.
Hams have a reputation, all too often, of expecting great service and
the lowest possible prices. When i call a businesses "toll free" number,
i respect the fact that that service has a cost, and i try not to abuse
it. I called Texas Towers, with my catalog in hand, knowing about what i
wanted, and perhaps only needing some guidance in certain areas about
finer points of item selection, compatibility., etc. Gerald has always
done right by me.
I know this is opening up a can of worms, but, sometimes, folks bring
on "rudeness" from salespeople, by their approach.

Just my 2 cents worth. We could use some more patience and
understanding, in a world where so many want "instant gratification."
