Copper oxide is assuredly NOT a conductor. Back in the early telephony days,
before there were germanium or silicon diodes coper oxide rectifiers were
used for detector and mixer circuits in the medium and low frequency ranges.
Read this as a way to generate harmonics when this material is introduced
into a circuit with r.f. present. A soldered connection will short circuit
any oxides in a joint thus preventing rectification. No doubt the twist on
connectors will do this as well as long as there is a solid connection.
