Just maybe this depends entirely upon which mode you consider to be
your less used (inferior?) mode.
In my case, I optimize the antennas for the CW end and use the tuner
for the less frequent forrays to SSB. The CW settings are great for
RTTY as well.
Another option exists. It might make sense with autotune/automatch
amplifiers like the ACOM to tune the antennas somewhere in the middle
of each band to keep the SWR excursions on either side to a minimum.
The 160M band is a case where tuning the antenna to 1830 produces too
high an SWR above 1900 for full power to be used. Ditto above 29.000
on ten meters with the antenna tuned to 28.100. During contests,
these upper parts of the band are used by many stations.
