C49XR (was Re: [TowerTalk] Bigboy rotors)

Marc unfortunately I haven't had much time at all with the C49.
It went up 2 weeks ago just in time for midterms and other stuff.

It is better than the TB6EM it replaced; it is 1-2 S units
above my Force 12 5BA on a 30' tower on all 3 bands (varies, but
always stronger when pointed in the same direction), and I opted
for separate feedlines option which I recommend. Unfortunately
the 15M balun (5kw balun) died a week after the antenna was intalled
so I'm renting a boom lift this weekend to swap it out. Cause on
the balun fail is not known but SWR went to >3:1 across 15 which
seems to point to the balun so far. Will report back once fixed.

Another FYI - I fitted the antenna with an integral truss support
assembly rather than hanging the truss from the mast; that made
install far far easier.

Oh and I think the antenna is considered comparable to 8 elements
on 10 meters based on what I've read even tho it has *14* elements
on that band (but the 14 elements there aren't spaced in a fashion
equivalent to a 14 element yagi.)
