This issue was covered previously on this reflector. Bottom line is that
many of us converted to using the ANDROS 2 piece N connectors, The center
pin is captivated, it and the shield is soldered just like a PL259. Then the
outer shell is screwed on and tightened with a wrench..
Very little likelihood of the pin moving. Moreover if for HF or low VHF use,
just use PL259 (Type M), and seal the joint with self-amalgamating Silicone
Tape (radio shack item), and a topcoat of Scotch 33+,and finally a spray of
clear Krylon.
