Hello group:

Enough on wind load! Lets open a new discussion.

I am starting to plan my retirement move to MD eastern shore (if XYL can
find the right house) and of course antennas. My dilema:

I enjoy 40 cw dxing. I built a three element phased vertical array way
back in the early 80's that worked well. Used phasing lines and hard
switching over a barely adequate ground radial system. (I now have a dipole
at 25 feet!)

I have never had a 40 meter yagi.

Issue for the group, seeking opinions and recommendations. Do I go for a
40 Meter 4 square or a yagi (Force 12 5 el 20 and 3 el 40 on one boom) at
somewhere between 60 and 73 feet up? Yes Steve it is at least an 85 MPH
wind area! Land on eastern shore is flat, almost at sea level with only
trees in the near field. Soil ranges average to good, so an extensive
radial system should make the 4 square really perform. I will not be near
salt water. As to the yagi, I am thinking ease of maintenance and not too
high up due to neighbors and the wind load during hurricane remnants. the 4
square will cost significantly less than a yagi.

I am seeking opinion and first hand experience on preferences. Which way
should I go? Please respond directly to me to keep traffic on the reflector
to a minimum. I will summarize the inputs and post to the reflector for all
to contemplate. Thanks for your thoughts. 73 Bob W9GE
