[TowerTalk] Concrete

Please be careful on this one. My Rohn tower required 3000 psi and that
made it mandatory that the inspector take samples DURING the pour and it
takes a 7 day strength reading and a certification at the end of 28 days to
get it to pass. At least here in CA.

Mike:

To be totally correct, you should consult the engineering drawings for your
particular tower. If necessary, if you can tell the city inspector that you
did the pour per the drawing, you have something to hang your hat on! As an

example, the drawings for my U.S. Tower state:

"All concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 2000 psi at 28
days unless noted otherwise. All concrete shall conform to the requirements
of the Uniform Building Code and ACI 318. Slump shall not exceed 4-1/2
inches."

and it goes on:

"Reinforcing steel shall be intermediate grade deformed bars conforming to
ASTM A-615. ...........etc."

A word to the wise: Some municipalities that require a building permit may
want to inspect before/after you pour the concrete -- suggest you check.
Some
cities will even insist on a PE* signature of the tower paperwork BEFORE the

permit is issued!

* - typically, this PE must be registered in your state.
