The freight is indeed a killer, but there may be a couple of ways to help out
on this.
First of all, they, US Tower, may end up with a plant somewhere in the
midwest, second, we might be able to get together and save a lot. I am in
the wholesale hardwood lumber business, and regularly ship full loads of
lumber TO California. I contract this trucking, but know that the truckers
are looking for loads back (flat-beds), and $2500-2800 gets an entire truck
back to my area (MN). I am planning on shipping a 106' model sometime next
fall or winter, and several towers could be shipped on one truck with the
proper planning. EVen if only 3 were shipped and counting the miles, extra
stop-overs, and special loading/packing fees by UST, it is not hard to see
how we could cut the shipping in half. I'm not ready to accept partners yet,
but will be doing so in October (or so) for delivery after the 1st of the
year. I'll repost this then, but if anyone, particularly in MN, WI, IA, ND,
SD, KS, NE, etc. is thinking ahead, let me know.
