[TowerTalk] Quad Element Tuning

I had a four element Quad up for about 10 years that was a real DX killer. I
used the loop dimensions in Bill Orr's Quad Book and used RG-11 in-line
tuning stubs on each band. It was mounted on a 24 foot boom. It played
immediately with the SWR curves and F/B right where they needed to be. I did
the same with a two element that preceded the four element. Never had to do
any pruning or tuning. We have strong East Winds here in Utah which made it
necessary to repair a loop or two each year but other than that the
maintenance was minimal. I talked with other Quad owners in the area who
used Gamma matches and hair pins, etc. that were always having to retune.
With the RG-11 that was never a problem. Just set and forget and no worries
of the wind messing up the tuning. I have a TH-5 MK II up now, as I recently
moved and didn't want to scare the neighbors right off the bat. Once
everyone gets used to the tower and Yagai, the Quad will grow again!
