My dad was a surveyor and forester.  He always had a compass with magnetic
north offset from due north for each section of the country.
These are available from Forestry Suppliers and Surveyor supply companies.
REI also has them.  Make sure you get one for your section
of the country.  These are also available for Canada.  Can't speak for other
countries.
