I very much doubt that you would get a flash ionization situation across the small
but finite resistance across thrust bearings, tilt over bearings, etc. A 100,000 amp
strike would make one great solid welded chunk!
In the BIG satellite dish world the azimuth and elevation axis bearings always have
a heavy duty wire ground connection bypassing the bearings to avoid having a solid
block of metal in the event of a lightning strike.
