I sure agree with Jack .. the "antenna fuse" thing, I think, was first
applied to the W2AU balun ... and, I know that FUSE worked, from personal
experience... used to sell them, and if someone was running, as example,
Henry 2k4 .. DON"T TRANSMIT ON WRONG BAND TO THE ANTENNA YOU HAVE THE BALUN
ON !! and... of course ... also the BN86... same o --- And, at my contest
station, in Redding, Shasta County, CA ... like, 1980, during CW ARRL SS ..
guess what ... "BOINK" --- my 4el 204BA dead as doornail ... rain, wind,
storm ... aerial up at 85 feet ... climb tower, put on coax jumper, no balun
... left it JUST LIKE THAT for about 8 months, before dismantling the
station...... KN6Q, now AL7RF, came over to visit like the next week, and
whilst I was taking care of my job, loaned him full access to my station ..
he worked DXCC++ between Friday evening and Monday morning, mostly using
that aerial with NO BALUN .. NON CONTEST WEEKEND! so ... there ya go. Not
particularly a balun lover, done it all both ways, and .... hmmmmmmmmm...
and, yes-- have the high power beads to put on my new mini-aerial system
...downtown Eureka, CA .. way limited QTH .. Used the BN86 nine years ago
because it was handy, fit the mast, and ... did not contemplate running QRO.
PSSST -- anybody interested in buying my PRO67-B, stored on the roof? Needs
some TLC, but will never see high horizontal here! Last on air, ARRL
Sweepstakes, @ WA7NIN ..PICK UP .. offer? 73 --- Mark aa6dx
