Hi,

Yes, I've been there and done that with insurance claims on
tower/antenna damage (once for a 100 mph hurricane, once for
a 75 foot high pine tree which took down a tower). Steve
	(K7LXC) definitely gave good advice.

If at all possible, get the insurance guy out before moving
things. Most definitely, take pictures. Instant developed
Polaroid type pictures are the best because you will know
immediately if the picture is focused or not. (It will be
worth your effort in buying such a camera if you can't borrow
one. Assuming your insurance covers this, there is no doubt
4 figures of settlement involved here. If there is a
danger in leaving things as is until the insurance adjustor
comes out, tell the insurance company that this is the case.
First, it may help get the adjustor out more quickly. Second,
it helps your case if you had to do some removal AND if you
had pictures - it prevents them from downplaying the damage.

When you get your estimate from the adjustor, they may try
to talk it down. They did that to me in the second case mentioned
above. Don't be in a hurry to take their first offer. As Steve
said, they are really in a hurry to close the claim (or they will
be if you are not in a hurry to accept a talked-down offer).

Keep in touch on the relfector as this goes forward, there may
be more advice you available as you start the insurance process.
