Lots of antennas work better than you expect on the "new" bands. 
On 17 and 12m, I use my Cushcraft 40-2CD 40m yagi. I had no 
trouble working any of the DXpeditions. On 30m, I use my 80m 
slopers. I don't bust the pileup, but I get through.
