Sharpen that pencil and renew those algebra techniques 
and, FWIW, this reduces to:
Bd = 0.5 * ( ( ( (R/2)^2 - (D/2)^2 ) / Bt ) + Bt ) 
where Bt (total boom length) = Br +Bd
