[Towertalk] Antenne question

Friends, help me answer this person's question. He is in Uganda and has
limited resources. He has took a lightening strike on a 5/8 wave ground
plane antenna so his "engineer" has put a copper ground rod beside the
antenna and connected it to the tower to help protect him from a future
strike. What will this cause to happen? Raise the SWR? Distort the radiation
pattern? Nothing?
