A local race-car builder, who made a sidemount for me a couple of years
ago, used a scrap block of high density polyethylene for the top bearing of
the sidemount. The stuff has a faintly soapy feel, but is quite hard --
like a plastic cutting board. In two years there is no visible UV
deterioration, but it could be tape clad if you wanted to. Very easy to
machine, he said, and in two years there is no sign of wear.
