[TowerTalk] Side mount on Trylon Tower

NO, NO, NO...

The channel then would be no stronger than the pipe, and maybe not
even that. And you would have set a pre-stressed bend giving a
collapse the place to start where you drew the metal in to form to the
pipe. This is akin to cutting a notch in the "seraph" parts of an
I-beam. If you bend the vertical AT ALL you weaken it. The whole point
of the horizontals is to fix the verticals in that U configuration, so
they CAN'T bend, just flex as a whole tower.

On all the vertical pieces the flat part begins at a tangent point of
a circle that describes 120 degrees of the circumference. Look at it
as 1/3 of a circle with tangential wings on either side that further
extend for a distance equal to the diameter of the circle. (It's
actually a slight bit less than 1/3 because the tower sides tilt
inward to go from 48 inches on a side to nine.)

What you specifically do NOT want to do is to change the shape of the
flat part. That shape is the source of its strength.

NO U-BOLTS, REALLY!!!

Call Trylon first, if anyone is the least bit tempted to U-bolt a
Trylon vertical piece around a pipe. Save yourself a catastrophe or
ruining your tower.

73, Guy.

(I have one of them in my back yard.)
