I new to 160M and am always learning but I'd like to reiterate a main point in your msg Rich and that is hearing is usually more important than transmitting. If you can't hear 'em you can't work 'em. I'd invest more time and effort on improving one's receiving capabilities than on transmitting, all things equal. And, I'd agree, one never knows where the signal angle is coming from on 160M and that leads me to a point I make to those who inquire. It never hurts to have mulitple options of receiving antennas to choose from. What works one night may be useless the next and the other antenna works better that night. If I may take a short bandwidth, I remember listening to one of those African DXpeditions early in 2003 and during the course of one evening, they came in best on the 4 square and then later better on the beverage, then best on the delta loop. The angle must have been changing all the while. Even low dipoles as well as short beverages or even long wires laid out on the ground may be suitable for reception. Phil KB9CRY
