Hi Steve,

Get in touch with NL7Z, Kevin, who lives in the Wasilla area. Kevin has my
old callsign. He works 160 meters regularly. I'm sure he can give you
some "on the ground advice". When I lived in KL7 (until a few months ago),
I used a shunt loaded tower - worked fine. My longest distance QSO was
with Brazil. Not bad, given the propagation from Alaska. Soil
conductivity may surprise you, since Wasilla (at least a good part of it)
is pretty heavily covered with "tundra" type soil, which retains moisture
pretty well. The permafrost will also help you. Of course the standard
"run as many radials as you can" advice applies.

Good luck in your new adventure!

73,
Joe WD0M
(ex WL7M and NL7Z)
