     I never thought about it, and I haven't observed any degradation in
performance of the solid vs stranded wires in my radial field. (not that I'd
be able to tell anyway.)

     You can't solder to aluminum (well, I can't) so copper is what I use.

     I buy it when I need it.  Besides, my radial wire is scrap wire (see
below.)   But Home Despot sells 500 foot rolls of #14 for about $13 around
here.  That's less than 3 cents per foot.  My average price for the scrap
was less than two cents a foot.

     I bought most of my radial wire from a local store.  It was scrap
spools of stuff that they had lying around when I visited them for other
purchases.
