When buying a used antenna or considering when it may be at the "end of it's
life" one might want to consider where the antenna was located. I am finding
coastal Florida to be much worse at weathering antennas than I remember
people talking about. For example, my 2-year old Rohn 45 shows more aging to
the galvanizing in 2 years than they did in 30 years in Illinois & Wisconsin.
Likewise, my aluminum antennas that were new 2 years ago show more age and
oxidizing in 2 years than they did in 30 years in Illinois & Wisconsin. The
result of the above is making for extremely high maintenence (worse than
anyone told me about) and a very short life expectency on antennas.
Hopefully, tower life can be preserved by re-galvanizing it every couple
years.

73's,
Dick- K9OM
