The best technique is to take the end of the center conductor with the
dielectric and heat the exposed end (cut off end that Jim was referring)
and when the dielectric melts or softens, then, with your fingers, stretch
the soft dielectric over the end of the exposed wire. When it cools, the
end will be sealed and no moisture will get into the wire and cause those
problems that takes you to the top of the tower during a contest in middle
of a storm to fix.
