But what is "performance"?

Consistent gain and pattern regardless of orientation?
F/B ratio
F/Sidelobes ratio
Forward gain
Forward directivity
Broadband feed point impedance so losses in Tx line are minimized
Lack of sensitivity to environment (i.e. the other single band Yagis in the
stack)
Reliability (so you don't have to climb the tower in the middle of the
contest?)

My point was that "performance" can cover a lot of ground, and even for
contestors, there's a lot of dispute about exactly what constitutes "best"
(otherwise they'd all go out and buy the same antenna, no?).
