[TowerTalk] ANTENNAS

Since I am in the sad position of having to replace a fallen tower and it's
antennas, I have been reading the Hy-Gain, Stepp-IR thread with great
interest. Frankly though I haven't learned all that much. It sounds like
the Stepp-IR antennas are well designed and offer some really nice
advantages over other designs. They also have moving parts which are a
potential failure. And while I know that all designs have their weaknesses,
the moving elements seem to be a greater risk. Additionally with summer
storms, I wonder how vulnerable the control circuit is.

The thought of having a pair of stacked Stepp-IR antennas is intriguing.

I could also go with stacked beams from someone else. I have had very good
luck with the CC X-7.

What a pain to lose a tower and it's antennas.
