This is somewhat location dependent.
Here in Florida, with the poor conducting soil (even wet) the depth of
the rod is very important.
A local commercial installer told me that it is not uncommon to drive
rod to 160'+ to get the required 5 ohms ground resistance.
Most of the country you will do fine putting several shorter rods.
