I used 502 insulators. I had them and it seemed an easy way to make the
transition using guy grips.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Transistion from Phillystran to Steel Guys

I'm wondering how most folks make the transition from Phillystran guys to
EHS steel for that last few feet down to the ground. 3 ways come to mind:

1) Simply interlock (i.e., one inside of the other) the Phillystran thimble
and the steel guy thimble. This seems like the safest and cheapest way to
go.

2) Connect the two thimbles with a suitably sized shackle. This would be
pretty convenient for building or maintenance purposes, but adds another
piece of hardware and another possible failure point.

3) Use a 502 insulator. This doesn't seem like a good idea, as it would
add weight, extra "visual profile" to the guy, and an insulator isn't needed
anyway.

In my particular installation, I'm using 1/4 steel, Phillystran HPTG6700I,
and Big Grips.

Any thoughts?

Thanks and 73,
