[TowerTalk] Raising Crank Up Tower to Vertical

Bob,

Find, buy, borrow, rent, a tall extension ladder... The bigger, the better.
Fasten (tie, clamp, etc) several large pulleys with rope lines to the top
and middle of the extension ladder.   Also fasten three to four rope guys to
the ladder at the middle and top positions.   Stand the collapsed ladder
vertically, and anchor the middle guys.  Then, extend the ladder to it's
maximum height and anchor the top guys.   Now you have a raising fixture,
with two hoisting lines that can be tied to the tower (HG-70HD) at its top
and center.   Guying the ladder with rope or wire, will allow considerable
force to be applied.  If you also add 'turning blocks' to the bottom of the
ladder, most of the force will be vertical, through the axis of the ladder.

BTW, a common aluminum extension ladder also makes a great re-usable antenna
support for field-day applications.  Boom-to-Mast plates and U-bolts can be
used to adapt the ladder to allow masts to be added at the top of the
ladder.   Four ladders can easily support a full-wave loop for 160 meters.
