Use solid fiberglass rod .. it works fine and won't degrade.
Have had my 80m vertical [60' Universal Tower] up since '89 .. and the 
fiberglass is perfect.
If you need some, let me know the inside diameter of the bottom section 
of your tower, as I have 6 or 8 rods of various diameters.
