You're right Rich.  I've developed the technique.  I hold the torch's tank and stand with two feet spread apart and crouch over and light and get out quick.  I've never had any problem but I do agree that the flash could conceivably get to the propane cylinder and yes it would be bad if that exploded.  Phil
