Brings up interesting argument as to why static dissipators doesn't work...

Conifer forests have literally millions of little sharp points (needles) 
that dissipate static (it's actually been measured). They're spread out 
over large areas, and so, would be a great way to discharge a huge 
thunderstorm, right?

Conifer forests still get hit by lightning.
