The price of copper has gone up, then down, now up again, mostly due to
demand from China.
The 500' spools of #14 that were ~$12 a few years ago are ~$20 now.

Some months ago when it was being discussed I said I would check the price
of the 500' spool of #14 insulated.  I have previously bought them for
somewhere between $12-$14.  Others reported higher prices.  They have indeed
gone up.  They are now $18 here in Maryland.  Apparently the price varies
regionally, perhaps due to greater or lesser transportation costs.

I noticed someone said he prefers 10 gauge.  Those are available too.  I
tried to remember it -- I think the price on the 500' spool of 10 gauge was
$43.  For 6 gauge the 500' spool was $123, for those who really want husky
wire.  Interesting.
