Thanks Steve for the update; also thanks to Bill K4XS. Wow Bill your beam
looks like some kind of
weird cb antenna now (ka9fox.com/k4xs). If i had just put up a new tower
and beam a month or two ago this is the kind of thing that would make me
cry. That Glenn-Martin thing that lowers yagis down the side of towers
would come in handy I bet. The local paper said Ivan is like a 60 mile wide
F2 Tornado now. Makes me wish I had a crank-up in a buried silo so I could
retract it completely below grade if I lived down there.
73 and Much GL/best wishes to all in Florida

I worked Ivars, KC4PX from Merritt Island, FL Monday evening 9/6.
He was operating mobile on 20 meters (or maybe it was 17?), on his way "back
home" after the latest hurricane.
Ivars is an active contester, and he asked me to let people know he
would *not* be on the air for the ARRL January VHF SS because he lost all
his antennas in the hurricane. His house is okay, and they were moving back
in, but he still had no power, no internet, etc. And no antennas!
Ivars is a very "big signal" on 50 MHz and up from eastern FL, and
his big signal will be missed in this SS. Hopefully, he'll have everything
back together soon...
