[TowerTalk] Grounding of guy wires...

Hello All,

It seems that I read that there can be a corrosion problem if you ground the
guy wires anywhere close to the steel screw-in ground anchors due to the
small electric current the may run between the anchor and the ground rod.
???

Is this correct? And if so, does this occur even if the steel guys are
broken-up with Phillystran or insulators?

Also, if they are broken up with insulators - so that there is not
electrical connection between the tower and the anchor - do you still need
to ground them at all?

I have a 70 foot tower with two sets of guys - the upper set has 33 feet of
Phillystran at the tower end - the bottom set is all steel but has an
insulator close to ground level.

I did have the lower set grounded near the screw anchor with standard copper
clad steel ground rods but have since disconnected the grounding straps
because of the concern about the corrosion.Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul / K9KDR
