NEVER NEVER NEVER be cheap with the concrete.  This is for several reasons:
(1) You may want to add additional antennas in the future; (2) You may
compromise the integrity of the tower in very high winds - even with a small
antenna, you will have an even greater margin of safety; (3) Inadequate or
improper installation may void any warranty or insurance;  and (4) Concrete
is cheap insurance - the cost of the additional yards of concrete pale in
comparison to the cost of the tower, coax, antennas (as well as the
potential damage to your house and surroundings....)

The Rohn HDBX 48 foot self-supporting tower is built now by Thomas
Shelby & Company, Inc. using the original ROHN tooling. See:

The tower specs are also available at this site. The HDBX 48
specification is 18 square feet of antenna and 360 thrust pounds. The
maximum size antenna boom is stated to be 10 feet.

The foundation for the base stubs is concrete measuring 5.75 feet x
5.75 feet x 4 feet deep = 4.9 cubic yards of concrete.

If one plans to only use the HDBX 48 with antennas that do not exceed
6 square feet, has anyone done calculations to see if a smaller
concrete base can be used?
