I will appreciate a technical explanation for the manual's "bumps the motor 
a few times".

Does the rotator actually turn when "bumped" and does the position readout 
stay synchronized to the rotator?  I had a very similar problem but when 
repeatedly "bumped", the readout would get increasingly off.
