K2EKI would beg to differ with you ... a dipole is indeed only as much as the gain plotsshow lower for the most part - this assumes however that they are BOTH at the same elevation.I have an 80 meter rotateable dipole at 136' and it performs extremely well. A 2 el would add 4 dbapproximately and add some additional gain at very low angles (less than about 5 deg) but it is only ~4 db from 4 deg through about 45. Normally gain is not as important as having a signal at the (current) incoming radiation angle. There are several stacks of C3 beams (2 el's on each band) outthere that perform very well - as they can select a lower (or higher) antenna when needed. g.
