While we on the grounding subject. What's peoples thoughts on tying my
station ground into the "halo" created by the forced hot water heat
pipes the run around the 1st and second floors? The idea is to create
a Faraday cage around the house. I know many lightning resistant
installations use a halo.
Some details...
* Two story house with with walk out basement (3 stories in back)
* House mounted tower on west wall
* three ground rods at base of tower
* Coax enter through wall at basement ceiling, 7 ft above ground level
* Power, phone, cable enters on north wall. at ground level
* 1 inch copper pipe with baseboard radiators around 1st and 2nd floor
* Pipe runs right past coax entry
I'm tempted to connect the hot water pipe to the station ground and to
the service panel ground. In addition, I'm tempted to connect the 2nd
floor hot water pipe to the tower at the 20 ft point to try to complete
the "Faraday cage" effect.
thoughts?
