Dunno, the link I looked at described it for a 5/8" ground rod.  And they 
recommend a 'slurry' which is supposed to increase the conductivity.

It's quite expensive, and you've got to have the Milwaukee Hole Hawg or 
equivalent, also not cheap, to use it.

Depends on soil, too, I suppose.

As many say here, YMMV.  I still use a hammer.
