Either of the two methods - bringing the wire into the shack, attaching it to the tuner, and connecting the counterpoise; or connecting one side of the feedline to a counterpoise, and connecting the 300 ohm feedline to the tuner - are just two different ways to skin a cat.  BOTH WAYS WORK.  One method is the standard method for feeding a longwire; the other method is the classic method for feeding a Zepp......Which way works best is probably strongly site dependant - and can be readily empirically determined.
