Gotham Vertical copywriters are alive and
well and now living at Tennadyne. ;-)
I'm not sure why Gotham antennas get such a bad rap, at least not the
verticals. I used a V80 vertical as my only antenna for a couple of years back in
the early 1960's. I had a pretty decent radial field under it, added a variable
capacitor to the supplied coil to help with matching on 10, 15 and 20, and it
worked well everywhere but 80 where it was just too short.
I think it worked just like a 23 ft vertical with base loading/matching
which, of course, was just what it was!
I understand there were some significant mechanical problems with their yagis
and quads. Never owned one of those.
