When I ordered my big 89' crankup about 6 years ago, it cost over
$1400 for shipment.

US Tower said they had so much damage on so many shipments that they
were 
"threatened" by the shippers to refuse any more.

They came up with a box frame, made of 2x4s, and 1/2" plywood around
the whole thing.

( about 23+ feet long )

Took me almost as long to get the thing out of the box as it did to
get it up. On items enclosed in boxes or such, I always write
"accepted pending visual inspection".
