I remember back BC (before coax), telephone twisted pair was the thing. 
Used to feed the 40 and 80 meter dipoles with it.  Not sure what the 
impedance was or how it worked, but did manage to WAS with the novice 
license.  Used to be laying around everywhere for the taking.
