I was addressing noise we hear in receivers Jim, since that
was the question asked about the log periodic. I never have
cared about why the charges gradient between the antenna and
space around the antenna builds up. I just wanted to find a
way to make the noise that disrupts communications systems
go away.

Way back in the 60's and 70's an Elmer of mine (W8VWQ) told
me communications antennas at the very top of structures
would wipe out from noise during foul weather and to always
side mount antennas. He was right. Move the same antenna
lower, even though it's hit by the same moisture, and it is
significantly quieter in bad weather.
