Two thoughts:
The underground tank is subject to corrosion that will not be seen.
A leak underground may, as happened in a Minneapolis suburb in the past
couple of years, follow the gas line into the building and accumulate there.
In the Minneapolis case, the accumulated gas inside the building exploded
and leveled the building, killing one person.
