I've heard this repeated many times, but it's not true in my 1st hand experience. Whether in my
lawn, or buried under the leaf mold in my damp pine/deciduous forest out back, the el-cheapo
aluminum electric fence wire  (~#18?) is still in fine shape after 8 years.
