There are surge protectors for phone lines, Satellite coax lines as well
as Cable TV coax lines. Just google your area of concern and you'll
find lots of vendors.
Most companies recommend a whole house protector followed by individual
units at all electronic equipment service areas. They will also usually
state that if you don't protect the phone lines and all other service
lines coming into the house that you are wasting your time...and for
those with whole house generators you need to ensure you have protection
on the transfer switch side of the breaker panel, etc.
The purest will tell you to use a UPS system that runs the load from the
batteries, not just switches to batteries when the power goes out.
Having the UPS in lines does protect the equipment from the brown-outs
(low voltages) that can be as harmful at times as well as the quick
on/off/on/off /on stutter of power that can occur when a power pole is
hit by a vehicle, etc.
Good Luck,
