In lieu of Saran wrap, a better alternative might be to use shipping 
wrap you can buy at Staples or other office supply stores. It comes 
on a handle and is polly a heavier grade of plastic. I have 24" rolls 
for palletizing books but I have seen it in 3-4" rolls.

I would opine you could get a tighter wrap using this product.
