     Hello,
   
  You might try one of the newer paint removers that are citrus (orange oil etc.) based. They are brush on, let set for time manufactures suggests, and wash off with water. They are mostly environmentally friendly and won't eat your clothes. They are a little slower than the harsher caustic based removers but on towers where the dripping down could be problematic I think they are safer.
